How To Prevent Rash After Waxing

September 23, 2016 by Admin2 Leave a Comment

Waxing is one of the activities to get rid of unwanted body hair. Most women do not feel like having it at all, especially when they love wearing short sleeves, short skirts, and short dresses. The last thing that they would ever like to is to have other people notice the hair on their arms and legs.

Unfortunately, waxing can cause rashes too. They look even worse than some visible hair on your arms or legs. Since that is the case, of course we would like to know how to prevent rash after waxing.

When rashes appear:

When these nasty rashes appear on your skin after waxing, how long do they usually last? It depends on how sensitive your skin is. Some only appear for a few hours, while in some other cases, they can last until three days. If the bumps are caused by the inflammation of the hair follicles, rashes can also come from certain triggers:

–        You might be allergic to the wax materials.

–        You scratch the bumps, either by accident or out of sheer discomfort.

–        Stress that sends signals that cause your hair follicles to suffer inflammation.

–        You forget to take painkillers an hour before waxing if you have low tolerance over pain.

–        You do not apply some after-waxing treatment, like hazel liquid solution, to soothe and cool down the affected area.

This is not about being tough. Even if you have gotten used to waxing, preventing rash after that is also important for your much healthier skin. There are ways to try, even the easiest ones made at home.

Some factors to consider to prevent rash after waxing:

  1. Is your skin in a prime condition? This means no cuts, bruises, irritation, or other open wounds. If there is at least one on the area that you would like to have a wax on, skip your waxing appointment.
  2. To keep your skin clean and well-hydrated before your waxing session, take a shower first. This is also the perfect time to exfoliate your skin, including removing dirt, dead skin, and oil excess. To avoid the possibility of an allergic reaction which will worsen the rash after waxing, shower with mild baby soap and use mild cleanser after that.
  3. To soften your skin and open its pores, shower with warm water. This will make waxing easier while preventing rash afterwards. The warmer the water is much better.
  4. Consult with the beautician on the site before your waxing session first. This is especially important for you with the sensitive skin. Recognize your body first, so they can help you with waxing materials that will not give you any allergic reaction.
  5. After the waxing session, clean and dry the areas that have been waxed. Do that gently. Soothing product choices that you can pick are: aloe vera, coconut oil, grape seed oil, or other stuff that you know can be helpful.

However, what if you are not well-experienced yet in waxing and your first time was a disaster? No worries. We all learn from our past mistakes, including this one. After the lesson, comes the valuable tips on how to prevent rash after waxing for your future sessions.

How to avoid rash and irritation after waxing?

These valuable tips can help you when you are ready for your next waxing session:

  1. No hot shower after waxing. You can only do this before, since warm water softens your skin and opens its pores. The last thing you need here is further injury and infection from this. (This also goes for saunas and steam rooms. Say NO to both, at least for no.)
  2. Use mild soap, cleanser, and even make-up for a while. Give your skin more room to breathe for at least a couple of days after waxing.
  3. If you are the athletic type and love staying active, take it easy. Do not hit the gym straight away after waxing, since the after-waxing effect gets your skin to be more sensitive and prone to infection – even by a mild stretch and bump.
  4. If you have already got the rash, do not touch or rub at it. Scratching it also makes it worse, especially if your hands are not clean. Apply some aloe vera or ice cube on the affected area.
  5. Waxing is always best done a day before the weekend. That way, you can relax and not move so much, which will cause you to sweat if you do. Turn on the AC in your bedroom on a full-blast if you feel the need to. Take it easy, at least for six hours after the waxing session.
  6. Give your skin more room to breathe. Wear loose-fitting, cotton clothes.

Once you know how to prevent rash after waxing, then there is no need for you to worry when you have your future sessions at the salon.
