Although the exact causes of cellulite formation on one’s skin are not scientifically determined, foods and lifestyle are known to have a significant role in triggering the lumpy skin appearance and worsening the existing dimples. On the other hand, certain foods, although will not eliminate cellulite, might be helpful in improving skin area affected by cellulite.

How certain foods promote cellulite reduction

Certain foods promote cellulite reduction in some ways.

  • Cellulite is often caused by lumpy or damaged connective tissues beneath the epidermis and dermis layers. Lumpy connective tissues causes the sharp appearance of cellulite on certain skin areas. Certain foods fight cellulite by strengthen these connective tissues to reduce the lumpy skin appearance.
  • Some other foods are great sources of fiber and beneficial fat that are needed by the skin cells for collagen synthesis. Sufficient collagen synthesis is required for new skin cell formation that is helpful for reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Foods that promote cellulite reduction

Although it is not possible to eliminate cellulite by merely taking in some beneficial foods, regular consumption of these foods can be helpful in reducing cellulite appearance and in preventing it from reoccurring in the future. Some beneficial foods that will help you reduce the appearance of cellulite include:

  • Foods loaded with vitamin C.

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that is helpful in inhibiting free radicals and thus, maintain skin cells health. Foods loaded with vitamin C will strengthen connective tissues beneath the skin, which will result in less-visible cellulite. To fulfil your body’s requirement of daily vitamin C, fruits and vegetables such as oranges, citrus, kiwis, broccoli, and berries can be take regularly.

  • Foods with unsaturated fat.

Sufficient fat intake is essential in combating cellulite. Healthy fat, such as the polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are highly beneficial for new skin formation. To reduce cellulite, replace saturated fat with unsaturated ones. Foods rich in omega-3 and omega-6 such as salmon, walnuts, and sunflower oil are thus recommended. They will reduce inflammation, strengthens connective tissues, and provide sufficient fiber for new skin cell formation, which are all beneficial for cellulite reduction. Olive oil also contains monounsaturated fat and polyphenols that is beneficial for boosting metabolism and reducing fat cell expansion.

In order to reduce cellulite, collagen production needs to be enhanced, and foods high in protein promotes sufficient collagen production that will be essential for strengthening connective tissues. Lean meats, such as chicken, lean red meat, white fish, and beans can be added to your daily meal plan to fulfil body’s requirement of protein.

  • Foods that help toxin disposal.

Cellulite can also be induced by the accumulation of toxins inside the body. Hence, toxin disposal is essential for promoting cellulite reduction. Substances that are important for toxin disposal include potassium, magnesium, and calcium. By flushing out toxins of the skin cells will flush out stress hormones, detox the liver, and rebalance estrogen production, which are all important in cellulite reduction. A spoonful of apple cider vinegar used as salad dressing or juice mixture will be beneficial for toxin disposal and cellulite reduction.

  • Foods that boost metabolism.

Foods that help boost body metabolism is also beneficial for those looking for a great body shape. A cup of green tea everyday can be helpful for cellulite reduction, as it contains theobromine, which stimulates the release of stored fats in the body. It is also a great beverage choice that will inhibit fat absorption, aid glucose regulation, and speed body metabolism.

Another cause of cellulite is the loss of skin elasticity and inhibited body circulation. In order to aid our body’s natural detox process, it is important to keep the cells hydrated. Sufficient water intake is the key to body’s natural hydration. Hence, it is important to consume more than eight glasses of water every day to accelerate the body’s natural detox and toxin disposal. It is also important to avoid alcohol and soft-drinks to minimize its negative effect to the body cells. Excessive consumption of caffeine should also be avoided, since the substance might cause cell dehydration that may result in less elastic skin that causes sharp appearance of cellulite.
