What causes clogged pores on cheeks?

Many people are developing acne all over the face, including cheeks. Acne on cheeks are most common in teenagers in their early puberty. Acne located on these parts of the face can be easily visible, causing deterioration of self-confidence. Many people also experience not only severe acne on cheeks, but also the reoccurring ones which becomes an underlined health and aesthetic problem. Clogged pores on cheeks are the culprit of this frustrating acne problem, which needs to be treat properly and immediately.

Effects of clogged pores in cheeks

Clogged pores in cheeks, as well as on the other parts of the skin may cause some results to the skin health and appearance. Mostly, clogged pores in cheeks are easily infected by bacteria and dirt. This will cause the clogged pores to develop into acne and pimples located all over the cheeks. People with clogged pores on cheeks, however, may experience different types of acne, based on the severity of the blockage and infection. Clogged pores on cheeks might bring you whiteheads or blackheads, blind pimples, or recurring cyst acne.

Causes of clogged pores on cheeks

Clogged pores are mainly triggered by oil excreted by the sebaceous glands which is infected by bacteria, dirt, or sweat. As facial skin can be easily infested by those tiny materials, skin pores on this area can be easily clogged. However, active sebaceous glands that produce high level of sebum or oil is not the only cause for clogged pores on your cheeks. There are some other culprits which trigger clogged pores that may develop into more severe skin problems. These causes include:

Smoking

Smoking is a definite culprit for narrowing down arteries which may lead into various cardiovascular diseases. However, prolonged smoking habit also influences your skin health, especially the skin on you cheeks. When you smoke, the smoke passes the face, leaving a greasy film all over the cheeks, clogging the pores on it. In addition, continuous exposure to heat and smoke from smoking activity also dry the skin out, resulting in clogged pores, wrinkles, and pimples on cheeks.

Dirt

As stated, cheeks are easily infested by outer bacteria and dirt, which triggers the occurrence of clogged pores. Thus, dirty things that have contacts with your cheeks also have a role in causing clogged pores on the cheeks. You need to check your pillow cases and bed sheet, and change them frequently to prevent bacteria infested in the sheet from moving onto your cheek skin.

Digestion problem

Clogged pores on cheeks can also be caused by improper digestion problem. If you are having a problem with your intestines, for example defecation problem and indigestion, you will likely to have clogged pores which develop to pimples all over the cheeks.

Harsh facial products

Clogged pores on cheeks can also be caused by harsh skin care products or improper facial treatments. Harsh products may trigger sebum production, which when gets too excessive can cause clogged pores. Improper facial treatments, such as rinsing the face not thoroughly after wearing cosmetics and excessive scrubbing may also lead to a problem of clogged pores on cheeks.

Malnutrition

Sugar, too-salty foods, coffee, and junk foods are the sources of foods which may lead to the problem of clogged cheek skin, which may eventually result in acne and pimples. These foods tend to cause metabolism disorder that has a role of causing clogged pores on your cheeks.

Puberty

Clogged pores on cheeks are common when coming into pubertal causes. The skin around the cheeks is more vulnerable, and growth spurt is likely to clog the pores on this delicate area. Thus, it is common that teenagers experience acne on cheeks or even all over it during puberty. During puberty, the hormone called androgens increases. This hormone plays roles in changing your skin characteristics and thus, causing clogged pores on the cheeks, as it is the most vulnerable part of the facial skin.

Genetics

Similar to clogged pores on the other parts of the face, clogged pores on cheeks can be triggered by genetic cause. Hence, if your family has a history of clogged pores on cheeks, you are likely to experience it as well.
