Almost all of us agree that hair loss can be a big problem. Especially for the people who really care about their looks. It is can be more stressfully if you do not know why you get the hair loss.
The followings are some common and not-so-common reasons why you might be seeing less hair on your head.
Physical stress
Any kind of physical trauma—surgery, car accident or illness can cause temporary hair loss. This can trigger a type of hair loss called telogen effluvium. It is important to considered that hair has a programmed life cycle: a growth phase, rest phase and shedding phase. A dermatologist in New York City said that when you have a really stressful event, it can shock the hair cycle and pushing more hair into the shedding phase.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is one example of the type of physical stress that can cause hair loss since the hormones become unstable. It is seen more commonly after the baby has been delivered rather than actually during pregnancy because giving birth is pretty traumatic.
Too much vitamin A
Taking too much vitamin A-containing supplements or medications can trigger hair loss, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. The Daily Value for vitamin A is 5,000 International Units (IU) per day for adults and kids over age 4; and the supplements can contain 2,500 to 10,000 IU.
Lack of protein
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, if you don’t get enough protein, your body may start to ration protein by shutting down hair growth,. This can happen about two to three months after a drop in protein intake.
Heredity
Hair loss also caused by heredity factors. If you come from a family where women started to have hair loss at a certain age, then you might be more prone to it.
Female hormones
We have known that hormones also responsible for hair loss. For female, there are other factors that cause hormones become unstable such as switching or going off birth-control pills. The change in the hormonal balance that occurs at menopause may also have the same result. Mark Hammonds.MD, a dermatologist with Scott & White Clinic in Round Rock, Texas explain it, “The androgen receptors on the scalp becoming activated, the hair follicles will miniaturize and then you start to lose more hair.”
Emotional stress
Emotional stress is less likely to cause hair loss than physical stress, but it can happen. More often, though, emotional stress won’t instantly causes the hair loss. It will increase a problem that’s already there.
Chemotherapy
Some of the drugs and therapy are used to beat back cancer, unfortunately they also cause the hair to fall out. One example is chemotherapy. A dermatologist said that chemotherapy is like a nuclear bomb that is done to destroy rapidly dividing cells which means cancer cells, but also rapidly dividing cells like hair.
Antidepressants, blood thinners, and more
Certain other classes of medication may also promote hair loss, such as certain blood thinners and the blood-pressure drugs known as beta-blockers or some drugs like methotrexate, lithium, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including ibuprofen, and possibly antidepressants.
Over-styling
Over-styling or an extreme hairstyling also can cause hair loss. Vigorous styling and hair treatments over the years can cause your hair to fall out. This kind of ex-include tight braids, hair weaves or corn rows, chemical relaxers to straighten your hair, hot-oil treatments or any kind of harsh chemical or high heat. These practices can affect the hair root so that your hair might loss and even worse, it cannot grow back.
Aging

In addition, loss of hair along with noticeable weight loss may also be a sign of an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia.
Trichotillomania
Trichotillomania, that is classified as an “impulse control disorder,” is the case when people constantly playing and pulling their hair. It can actually strip your head of its natural protection: hair, and causes hair loss.
