Born and educated in England, Dr. Caroline Koblenzer came to the Philadelphia area in 1959, after stints in the Sudan and British North Borneo as a "Lady Medical Officer" with the British Overseas Civil Service. Once her three children were in school, she trained in dermatology, and entered practice with her husband. It did not take long for her to realize that the important interaction between skin and psyche was not often addressed in dermatology, and in order to understand this interaction better, she took full training psychoanalysis at the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Association, and was certified by the American Psychoanalytic Association in 1982. in addition to general dermatology she has focused on skin-psyche interaction, for the last 20 years.

A clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania, Caroline has published a text, a number of chapters, and many papers in the American and European literature. She reviews manuscripts for the major dermatology journals, and also was honored to receive the Musaph Medal for life-time achievement, from the European society for Psychiatry and Dermatology, in 2001.

In addition to full-time practice, Caroline continues to pursue her interests in music, movies, and theater. She enjoys the visual arts, and tries to support up-coming artists, several of whose works she owns. She attributes her interest in psychocutaneous disease to her work in third-world continues, where communications was often non-verbal, and where empathic understanding - often intuitive - was crucial for good patient care.
