Being a woman, having smooth skin is what most of us would dream about. Unfortunately, some of us inherit genes that can cause more body hair growth than we really want. Because of that, there are two things that a woman often does to get rid of the body hair: shaving and waxing.
This is also why waxing spas and salons attract so many female customers. However, not all the waxing process goes smoothly. Some end up in bumps on their skin after waxing. Worst of all, sometimes the bumps just refuse to go away so easily. Still, we are all looking for painless wax and skin bump recovery.
But, how do we do that?
8 Steps for A Painless Waxing Process and Skin Bump Recovery
Step 1:
Be ready. How? Make sure that your skin is clean and dry. No bruises or cuts, please – or wait until you heal. Do not even apply some lotion on it until it is waxing time.
Step 2:
Since the purpose of waxing is to get rid of your unwanted body hair completely (and more effectively), shaving is not an option. You do not want to suffer from skin irritation, just because your body hair is a bit too short for the wax to pull. That means no shaving for at least three weeks before your waxing schedule.
Step 3:
Attention to all of you who would go for bikini waxing: never do this during your period. Seriously. Do not even do this during your PMS stage. Not only icky, your skin tends to get really sensitive during these days. Check your calendar and do the math before scheduling your waxing session. A few days before or after your period is a better option. On the safe side, make it a week.
Step 4:
Avoid worry and fear with painkillers. Take some about an hour before waxing, especially if you have low tolerance with pain. That way, you will not panic easily when the waxing process starts.
Step 5:
Wax only the visible parts to your eyes if you choose to do it on your own at home. Do not even attempt at using a mirror to help you if you are the nervous type. Things can go wrong and you might end up in a serious injury. Get a female friend to help or leave the parts that you can see to the expert at the waxing salon.
Step 6:
There is a reason why waxing is best done during the weekend or the night before. Why? Because after that, you have the chance to get some rest for a couple of days. That means staying indoor to avoid the sunburn during the day. Avoid exposure to other areas with extreme heat, like sauna and being close to the steaming oven in the kitchen.
During these 48 hours, you should wear loose-fitting, cotton clothes. Give your skin a room to breathe after the treatment. Close contact with any fabric, no matter how soft, can still cause irritation.
If you happen to be sexually active, you might want to skip this activity after bikini-waxing. It is only for a couple of days. Since your skin is still on the healing process, any sexual activity might invite bacteria easily in that area.
Step 7:
This is the time for your SET treatment after waxing. SET stands for soothing, exfoliating, and treating.
– Soothing your skin can be done a couple of days after waxing, especially if it is still red and irritated. Use a cold compress or a topical treatment on the affected area. Do not forget to keep that area clean to avoid further infection. Rose oil, marshmallow root, cucumber, and chamomile are great choices for this step.
– Exfoliating your skin with an exfoliating cloth while in the shower is really helpful. You can also use your favorite body wash. If you worry about the body shop being too harsh for your skin, choose a milder one. Baby soap is the best, by the way.
– Treating your skin properly, especially after waxing, is a must. Avoid wearing tight clothing (like leggings, for example) and use a topical exfoliating product every day to reduce ingrown body hair. Do this once or twice a day, especially if some hair keeps on growing.
Step 8:
Make sure that your waxing session is only once a month, not more than that. Avoid shaving and do regular exfoliations after every session. If these routines are consistent, you will soon receive a painless waxing session. You might also reduce the possibility of getting the after-wax bumps. The recovery will also be much quicker.
After these steps are done, you will find that getting a painless wax and skin bump recovery is not as hard as it seems. No more unwanted body hair and you will have much smoother, healthier skin. Another side benefit? It will also boost your confidence.
